After careful
review with our Baylor Trainers and
review of heat policies for the diocese
and local public ISD’s, we have arrived
at the following restrictions for
practice and play due to high
temperatures:
-
For all practice
sessions regardless of temperature,
players should be given a minimum 5
minute cool down break after 15
minutes of practice (5 and 15
Rule). This break should include
shade and helmets should be off and
players are al lowed to have as much
water as they need. Coaches are
required to have ice bags on hand
for every practice in the event a
player suffers from heat exhaustion.
-
When the temperature
reaches 100 degrees or a heat
index of 110 degrees, players
will be in pads, helmets and shorts
only. The 5 and 15 Rule remains in
effect and shade in the form of a
tree or canopy must be available.
Players are al lowed water whenever
it is requested without question.
Players are al lowed to remove their
helmets when they are not part of
any contact or action.
-
When the temperature
reaches 105 degrees or a heat
index of 115 degrees, NO
OUTSIDE PRACTICE OR PLAY IS ALLOWED.
All temperatures will be governed by
WeatherBug. The link is
www.weatherbug.com. You must use
the zip code for your location of
practice. As an example, the NE teams
will use 76248 as the Keller weather
reading.
As we discussed in the coaches meetings,
practices may begin today, weather
permitting, and the first 4 practices
must consist of:
The first 2 practices in shorts and
shirts only
The second 2 practices in helmets and
shoulder pads
All remaining practices in full pads,
weather permitting.
Our first goal is the safety of our
players. Please make sure that you
and your coaches maintain strict
adherence to this policy. If you have
any questions or need clarification,
please don’t hesitate to ask.
